The Effect of Economic Conditions on the Venetial Patriciate, 1300-1600

Abstract: 20 pages. The changing economic climate in Venice during the years 1300 thru 1600 greatly affected the patrician family's internal and external strategies. Family strategies, in this case, meaning the parents' or other family members' use of marriage, alliances, bureaucratic government jobs, other family connections, or sending daughters off to a convent to save money. All ways in which a family or family member changed itself, used itself or reacted to these economic conditions are considered in this paper. Bibliography lists 14 sources.
