Early Athens and Rome: Crucial Differences

Abstract: 7 pages in length. Athens and Rome both started as small city states with many enemies as powerful or more powerful than they. Athens formed a pseudo-empire but soon collapsed while Rome formed a very large state and held it for centuries. There were obviously several very crucial differences which caused this difference in outcome for these two cities, which will be explored in this paper. Bibliography lists 5 sources.
